2 thoughts...1 You may have 351C toner (looks the same, but is keyed differenty), or the sensor that detects the presence of the black cartrige may be dirty ( very common on these MFPS). Cleaning this sensor is easy unless you have a finisher attached and then this must be removed, along with the bridge unit for access. I would have a tech come out to inspect and clean..If this is not the cause then you may have black developer issues..too low, gears stripped etc..EMujo
If you don't see your question answered in the forum, please don't think it's OK to PM me for a personal reply...I do not give out firmware and/or manuals.

the toner is for the 4511
i bypassed the front door switches so I could see if the black toner bottle was rotating
      it is rotating
so I don't think it has anything to do with the rotation of the toner bottle

as for the toner sensor, that is it the toner density sensor? I just cleaned the color auto-toner sensor not to long ago, I also swept out the machine and cleaned the laser slit glass while I was in there.

where would I find the black toner level sensor?

I've pulled the bridge and been inside the machine in the past. I am comfortable digging into the machine and working on it, I just need that bit of guidance as to the proceedure to clean the black toner sensor.

I also have the full service manual, but I don't know what the technical name is for the black toner sensor, so I don't know what chapter to look at in the manual

I poured out a little of the original 1/2 full toner, and noticed that some of the toner is a bit clumpy.

I don't know why it is clumpy, the machine is in a climate controlled office, it is not subjected to heat, nor damp conditions.

For whatever reason the toner is clumpy, could a bit of clumpy toner have got inside the machine and is causing a blockage, not allowing the fresh toner from the new toner bottle to enter the machine?

Two things to look for. First, check your developer unit to see if your augers are turning. I've had developer units lock up in the past and this would be one symptom. Also the gears driving the developer will wear and cause loss of developer drive.

If your developer unit has drive, the next thing to check would be the auger that brings the toner from the toner bottle to the developer unit. That has also been known to break. Broken auger would require replacement.

Like many things in the 4511 series, developer drive and toner auger are both pain in the butt to replace, so have fun with that. I don't miss that machine.
