From what i have read, i beleive i understand what most of everything is. I have this error on a customer machine and just happened. i checked the HDD physically, it is spinning fine and not clunking, I guess there is a disk check with the on-clear +3 then a three digit number, ill check the service manual. But shere i get confused it when trying to upload the FW: a-where do i get it, and b-is the JIG a physical device with teh FW already on it, from the diarams in the service manual, it looks like it. Where do iget these, and do i need to load the FW on it. or do they come pre-loaded. sorry for all the questions, just trying to get all the info i can for the customer.

Hi there.


[F103] HDD transfer time-out


(1) Check if the connectors of the HDD are disconnected.
(2) Check if the connector pins are disconnected or the wires of harnesses are broken.
(3) Perform the bad sector check (08-694). If the check result is OK, recover the data in the HDD. If
the check result is failed, replace the HDD.
(4) Replace the SYS board.


Perform the tests on the HD first to determine if the HD is at fault, which sounds like the case. If the HD is faulty, you will need to replace the HD and update the system firmware to re-install the machines OS and data (Personal Data not included).

You can update the firmware via USB. The jigs are generally only used when you accidently perform a SRAM clear (dont ask or something else major and are obtained from your toshiba suppliers.

Thank you very much for the reply, i will give all that a shot and see how it turns out. i can hear the HDD spining and it isn't clunking accross the platters, so i hope the drive it good, and all connections look good as well. i had ohmed out the pins on the IDE cable as well, no open legs. thank you again
