    2540c wont boot

hi there, im currently working on a toshiba 2540c that is giving me some headaches. a few weeks ago the machine wouldnt boot and all i did to fix the problem was unplug the power cable from the copier then plugged it back in. thats all i did and it came back to life. today i had a callback to the same copier. it wont boot and my previous fix did not work. if you turn the copier off wait a few seconds then switch it back on, you hear a click and a slight hum of it about to come to life. sometimes the touchscreen flashes real fast but the copier always dies within seconds of hitting the switch. I swapped out power cables and put a power surge protector on the line, but noting helped. i checked all the fuses and they all passed. anyone else seen this before or have a clue where to go from here?

Have had issues with a eS xx40 series machines in this respect.

A simple fix may be to reload the firmware (without the ability to get a clone file, this is pain!) and it may work again (have done this).

In some cases though, replacing the HDD is the only way to solve it (have replaced several).

If the HDD option works, advice would be to leave a surge protector on the machine and see if the issue comes back (one machine I have worked on had HDD replacement 3 times, 3 months apart each time).

If it does come back, I would look at the potential of something on the network sending information to the machine and killing it (as is a possibility with the above mentioned machine).

    Hope this helps.

I would start by swapping out the memory dimms before the HDD, then (if it comes to ready) produce a List Print of Errors > 9+Start Power on > 107 if the print shows any F100 errors then replace the HDD however if you don't have experience with this machine or the process then you will face problems as Firmware programming will be required.

my experience with toshibas is minimal. i cant get the maxhine to load enough to take the firmware. its like the whole machine got itself an enema. i was thinking the high voltage pwb. my company didnt sell too many toshibas since the es35. we tend to be a kyocera dealer. but the wierd thing is that the machine attemps to boot. its like the engine or main pwb is saying heck no dont boot.

Have you checked to make sure the machine is getting a decent 240v? Also maybe worth checking the 5v also.
It didn't say that I couldn't do it in the manual.

I tried swapping the dimms and hdd and low power pwb. Nothing brough it back to life. I was going to check the voltages but my multimeter is on the fritz ever since i dropped it in the rain. Anything else i can check?

              ------UPDATE------

after a few hours of testing, i eventually pulled the cable for the control panel and whammo! the machine booted up (probbably as i didnt have a control panel) so im returning to the copier in the morning to put a new control panel on it.
