Steps for replacing e-Studio 280 partition

I heard our Toshiba eStudio 280 making clicking noises when it started up and then freezing.

Opened it up and sure enough it was the dreaded HDD going. It occasionally works, but I want to replace it.

I've managed to get a replacement hard drive but it's an 80gb which I've formatted and tested.

Am I going to have to partition it? The old 40gb had an 8gb partition.
Also I was just comparing the labels on the HDDs and their amperages are different. Does that matter?

    Both are Western Digital.

    Cheers!

**sorry the title should be HDD not partition

You need trained technician because when HDD is changed You have to update firmware.

I'll never ask if I didn't check user manual, service manual, parts list, BSI/TNI/TAD... web, existing threads.

Took a a bit of trial and error but I fixed it even with the manual.

Two things I learned that could be helpful to others:

When you format your USB (if you're updating without a jig) it has to be under a gig and formatted in FAT (not FAT32 or exFAT or NTFS). And better to do it Windows 7 or 8. I formatted my USBs it on a WinXP machine thinking it would be easier but I kept getting "inflate error"

You can partition the drive on the machine. Hold 3+clear while you turn the power on and it takes you to menu where option 3 can help you set it up.

Thanks ivovb but you were a bit too stingy with advice to be helpful

Sorry to hear that. Even will not response to that offence. Check Your stats - no even 1 help to others' questions just ask and demands from You. If You are technician You must take my advice like how to fish for (if You have SH first read it) but not a lazy one how to receive the fish (someone else to read books instead of You).

In other hand all of yours findings are explained in SH... Nothing new.

No offence. Just advice. Show some knowledge in order to recognize You like technician not a lamer and You will receive all of the fruits that I can give You. FOR FREE!
