Toshiba e-Studio 256se problem after firmware update

    Hello
I have a 256se on witch I have updated the firmware because it had some problems like freezing, usb devices not getting recognized ...
After the update I did the 9030 initialization and now when it starts everithyng is ok exept I get a "service mode" in the lower left corner(where it displayd informations about usb conected devices) and it doesnt record to the counters the copy/print jobs and has some limitations.
I have done a 08-9072 to check the disk and it gave me the OK result so the disk should be fine.

So why can I get it to start in normal mode(even if from 08 menu I select normal mode it still starts in service mode)?

It is very important when updating the firmware on the 256SE that you identify if the copier is a yellow dot or red dot version. A few years ago there was a big flood in Malaysia that destroyed the production facilities of the sub contractor who made three line CCD's for Toshiba. Toshiba was forced to suddenly switch to a 4 line CCD supplier prompting the yellow dot version. The two versions of firmware are incompatible with each other and can damage the copier's main board.

If you look under the glass, on the right front side of the copier, close to the edge, you should be able to observe either a red or yellow sticker that tells when the copier was made. You need to identify if you installed the correct version of firmware.

It is also possible, if this is an early production copier, there could be no dot.

You can also check if 08-203-1 is turned to 0. Is the meter advancing on the copier, when you make a copy?

The copier is a yellow dot one, I was asked for this information before the firmware was given to me.
The copier works ok except it has some limitation that come wirh this "service mode". I have spent the entire day studding the service manual and all the possible codes related to this problem and nothing comes up.
I am not sure a 08-203 will work, all codes are 08-xxxx.... a 4 digit format that I understood camed with the new operating system from Toshiba.
By the way t still hapens, that some times it doesn't recognizes the usb atached and on rare occasions freezes. This with the new firmware.

Your machine has been put in Line Mode which disables meter and brings up the Service Mode message. Go to 08-9010. Change it to 1 if it's 0, or 0 if it's set on 1. (I can't remember which number is which.)
Why does every customer think they're the first one to ever say: "you've been here so much we should get you an office, ha, ha, ha"?

Thank you @arnh79, problem solved. The value was 1 and I switched back to 0 and "service mode" is gone. What would be the propose of putting the copier in LINE? I have notedother thinks not functioning, like power saving and a few other little things.

Not really sure. I think the mode is used in manufacturing and testing the copiers at a Toshiba factory. But that's a guess.
