Re: xerox 510 dp develper dumping
Developer dumping in an 8850 or 510 can be triggered by numerous causes. Here are the most common:
Scratch on surface of drum in area where the developer makes contact with the drum surface - causes developer bias to short out. Replace drum
Bad BTR contacts: either the top or bottom ones can wear and cause arcing, or loss of bias voltage. Replace worn contact(s)
Low developer level - After several dumps, the level of developer in the housing becomes too low. Replacement of the developer is then necessary.
Bad side developer seals - The OEM developer seals are no good and can cause damage to the drum along with leakage of developer on outer edges of the machine. Once sufficient developer builds up in the DT area, it shorts out the D/T bias, and then the developer dumps. We have re-engineered these seals.
Bad Erase LED Assembly - Sections about 2" wide on the erase assembly will go off. This in turn causes excess residual charge on the drum. This charge builds until the machine starts pulling developer. A problem with the erase assembly is typically indicated by a build up of developer approximately 2" wide beneath the developer housing. Replace the erase assembly. We have also re-engineered this assembly for reliable operation and long life.
When replacing the developer, you should always go directly into the diagnostic mode before allowing the machine to come to ready. Run diagnostic code 09-21-6 to calibrate the toner sensor to the new developer. Otherwise, you can inadvertently over tone or de-tone the new developer.
