How to tell when ESS board is faulty?

    Hello all,
I've been looking at a Docucolor 250 that is not able to boot past the initial loading-bar screen. It resets in an endless loop - supposedly when it first started happening, one of the trays would move up and down, but now there's no mechanical movement at all.
I've worked my way through the service manual and all voltages have been present where they needed checking. The LEDs corresponding to the different voltage levels being generated are all illuminated, and there have been no discrepancies anywhere when testing with the multimeter. Someone else ran BIOS on the HDD and confirmed that everything related to the computer is functional.
I've heard that a common problem is the ESS board for issues like this. As they are expensive and rare, I'm wondering if there is anything to check specifically on the machine to ensure that the ESS is the problem.

As a side note: the previous owners of the machine said they ran into this problem once before, and it took removing the whole tray that included the ESS and IOT, shuffling it around, and pushing it back into the slot to get it to work again. The machine stopped working after being transported to another facility.

    Thank you!

Try to reseat all connectors from ESS and MCU boards.
Also reloading firmware can be a solution

Doesn't seem to do the trick. As much as i want to believe something mechanical is loose, I can't find what it is.

Does anyone know specifically what it is about the ESS that causes this problem? If I can ensure that it is the ESS, I can move forward, but it's the not-knowing that's so frustrating.

In this situation you need diagnostics software installed on PC computer, try to connect to machine using usb port and read the error codes or trying nvm's reset.
Also reloading machine sw. Can be a solution

          Hi,

I have the same problem, only works the DADF. It may be the ESS, but also the MF-ROM or some RAM slot. Try to remove and replace the battery of the ESS and NVM NVM MCU. If you find something good, let me know, I'm also trying to restart my DC 240.
