[Misc] How to change developer in Xerox DocuColor 240

    Hello,
Can anyone tell me how to change the (magenta) developer in a Xerox Docucolor 240?
(or a link to download a service manual).
The machine doesn't print magenta anymore and there is a lot of magenta toner in the machine, so I think I'll have to change the developer!

Post a pic if you can. It sounds like it could need replacing but you never know.

The Developer tank I easy to take out, removing the old developer is the messy part if you dont have a service vac. A couple of helpful hints, make sure you inspect the magnetic roller after you have it cleaned out, if it gets damaged you might as well replace the whole dev housing $$. Also the new dev (never use non-Xerox) will come with a little sticker or label with a # on it, don't throw it away stick it on the dev housing, you will need to enter the # into the Cyan ATC in Max Setup.

    Good luck!

Thanks, but I'm not a Xerox technician. Can you tell (or better show) me where to find the maganta developper(tank) and the magnetic roller. What parts do I need if I've to replace the whole dev housing? And where can I order this?
I know where the toner, drums and belt are.
Tomorrow I can take some pics from the machine. I can print color, but the magenta (red) color can't be seen! (Toner is 100%, new cartridge!)

OK, I think we need to slow down on replacing the developer. Swap the magenta drum for the cyan and try to print both colors. Test prints can easily be done in CE (service) mode. Hold 0 for 6 sec then press start. Pass is 6789. Press log in/out>common settings>service>Maint Diag>Test prints> pattern 14

You may be lucky and have a 1st BTR issue

OK, I can't get in the service mode!

I pressed 0 (on the second picture), but then I hear some beeps. Here are some pics of my 240

What is a 1st BTR issue?

I swapped the magenta with the cyan drum and printed the same picture as before the swap again.
Result: no differance. No magenta on the picture!

What causes this, what to do? (Laser? Developer?)

To enter service mode press 0 for 6 sec. then start do not releases the 0 key before pressing start.

Make a magenta print as I described before, open the front door as the paper is pulled, clear the jam then remove the IBT belt. Check the IBT belt for the image, most likely there will not be one.

Take the IBT belt apart and swap the 1st BTR Magenta with the one of the others. The 1st BTR's are the black spongy rollers under the IBT belt there are 4 of them, one for each color. Put it back in and run all the colors again. If the fault occurs with the color you swapped the 1st BTR you know that's where the problem is.

Here is a video I made several years ago on the removal of the IBT assembly.

                  Ok, made some test prints:

                  image1.JPGimage 1

After image 1 I swapped magenta with cyan drum
                  image2.JPGImage 2

After image 2 I swapped back, result image 3
                  image3.JPGImage 3

Do I have to go on with the IBT belt or is something else causes this?

The deletion on the Yellow is the laser (ROS) unit. If you dig through my YouTube channel I have a video on how to clean it from the outside, it may need to be taken out and cleaned ($$) attempting to clean it from this way is worth a shot.

It does look like the developer is shot, I think a new bad is only about $80 from Xerox.

Thanks, I did find the video on Youtube, will give it a try!
What do I have to order? (Bad of developer?) Art.Nr would be very kind.

If it is the developer and not the ROS unit then you will better off getting a developer housing and developer at the same time. The only way to change the developer on it's own is messy, even if you have a toner vac, and even then if it still fails to print magenta then you will need to buy a developer housing and another bag of developer any way.
When you get the new developer housing it will have a small green sticker on it you should be able to see these on the current developer housings in the machine. It will have a 3 digit number on it like 043 you need to input this number into the new ATC sensor setup in service mode.

                        PART NUMBERS:-
                        604K24226 Developer Housing Kit (Y, M, C)
                        675K17990 M Developer

If you need the instructions on how to do it PM me and I'll send them to you.

                        HAVE FUN!!??

Sorry, not bad, but bag of developer, and I was referring to the magenta developer.

The deletion on the yellow is likely the ROS.

OK, I changed the developer (is's indeed a bit messy) and now I'm getting good color prints!
The only problem left is: I get black (or cyan) dots on the paper when I'm printing colors.
                              1. Black and white is perfect.
                              2. When I print only Yellow first I get "black" dots on the paper
this is also with cyan and magenta.
                              What causes this? (see picture)
