The machine is 5 months old with about 30,000 copies on it. The customer said it has been perfectly quiet until now. The noise can best be described as a ticking sound. There is no pattern to it but it is fairly constant. It seems to be coming from the rear of the machine.I did not have time to remove the covers as customer had to leave. It makes 3 or 4 ticks randomly. Always hear it after the last page has come out as the machine is winding down. This is the first Xerox call I have had that is a real issue. Before I go back tomorrow, I wanted to see if this is a known issue.

Re: Xerox 7830 makes ticking noise
One of our members told me the issue may be with toner bottles. The contents shift in shipping, and pack itself in the bottle. Motors struggle to turn. Thanks to Flash in Wake Forrest. The greatest enemy of knowledge isn't ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. Stephen Hawking -

Re: Xerox 7830 makes ticking noise
Yes, the waste toner units often overfill and cause this noise before they call to be replaced. On all 75xx & 78xx machines I visit, I change NVM 751-085 from 3600 to 2000. This is the NVM that stops the machine and calls for the waste toner unit to be replaced. Changing from 3600 to 2000 causes this message to pop up earlier before the unit has a chance to overfill.Comment

Re: Xerox 7830 makes ticking noise
Thanks guys. Flash mentioned waste toner also. This makes sense. The noise sounds like something in a bind. My manager kept bugging me about why I had not called tech support yet. I told her that I had not done my part yet, like fully checking everything. Calling support first thing is a sign of weakness, I would much rather talk to a real field tech. Re: Xerox 7830 makes ticking noise
For the sake of closure, The waste toner had recently been changed. I found all four of the toners were tight when I tried to turn the white gear on the end. Slapped them around a little and they loosened up and the noise went away. Thanks to all.The greatest enemy of knowledge isn't ignorance, it is the illusion of knowledge. Stephen HawkingComment
