The amount of charge getting to your drum in not sufficient ?
    or development NG ?

Take it back to the original machine and check it its still clear.
    Whatever

Thanks - but I am not exactly sure what you just said

"Take it back to the original machine and check it its still clear." - what do you mean?

Today I am going to swap the cyan developer tanks between the 2 printers and see if the line goes with the developer.

If there is insufficient charge then wouldn't this affect the whole of the drum rather than just a 1cm wide line?

Right, I just moved the Cyan developer tanks between the 2 machines and the soft deletion line did not move across. It's still on the DC250. It's a pale Cyan line 20cm from the left edge on A4 landscape (LEF)

I stripped and cleaned the ROS and cured the minor hard edge deletion that I caused yesterday - who would have thought that such a tiny spec of dirt could cause such problems

I reran Test Pattern 14 on all colors and I am actually seeing exactly the same line deletion on Yellow - definitely not on Black or Magenta. It's very hard to see on the Yellow.

        So to recap

        1. Changed drums
        2. Changed 1st BTR rollers
        3. Changed 2nd BTR Assembly
        4. Changed Developer Tank
        5. Stripped and cleaned ROS

The deletion is visible in Cyan and to a lesser extent Yellow and is 20cm from the left hand short dge of A4 paper fed LEF. Is is a soft edge deletion of about 50% of color most noticeable on the light color of a standard Test Pattern 14.

Is there an NVM that can adjust the image quality to compensate for this? As I seem to have exhausted all hardware options, maybe I can fix it software settings/adjustments.

Willing to try anything at this stage!

Is there anything else to change??

Did you clean the mirror right next to the polygon? (The spinny shiny thing)
It is very common to get cyan and yellow toner dust coming off the polygon and building up on the mirror right next to it. Sometimes it is difficult to see. This will give you a soft edge deletion upto about 15mm wide.

I blew it with a can of compressed air (well away from the print room) but didn't touch it with anything to wipe it.

Do you think it's worth doing? I have the strip down to about 30 minutes now

And yes, the deletion is about 15mm wide!

Definitely. Just use a lint free cloth, no solvents, wipe all one way and don't rub. If you already used air in there, it will be worth blowing the polygon area as well, then wipe the mirrors down. Try not to leave finger prints/smears.

Thanks - I'll give that a go in the morning. I wasn't sure what to use so avoided any solvents except I removed and cleaned the glass windows with glass cleaner but I'll get a lint free cloth and clean the mirrors etc tomorrow and report back - fingers crossed!!

Just in case anyone is interested, I took some photos to help me during reassembly. Note the significant toner contamination - it's a lot cleaner now

Re: DC242 - black lines but not drum. Ideas?

Gave the ROS another good clean today but nothing has improved

I did notice that one of the glass rod 'mirrors' in the ROS has scratches on it but they pretty much ran the length of the mirror rather than one particular spot but I think I might have to replace the ROS because of it and because I am running out of ideas.

I did find that someone else had exactly the same issue back in 2013 but there was no answer in the thread.|

I have seen and repaired this problem hundreds if not thousands of times and it's never this difficult. We have to be missing something. Is the test print Black F/C or Black B/W? Also is this only on the K is is it on any other colors?

It's not really the black that I am worried about but the Cyan - that huge 15mm wide soft edge deletion. I'm going to order a new ROS and see if that fixes the problem - I don't like the scratches on the glass rod mirror so I'll see if a new ROS cures it
