    Re: xerox 8830 problem

Don't know by your question whether something has changed, or you have just gotten the 8830 and are trying to understand what to expect from it.

The period of time between each print may vary. Processing time for each file may be different. In the case of multiple copies from the same file, the first print out will take longer than the time between subsequent prints. In any case, this timing is non-adjustable.

Regarding line weight and grey scale, there are a number of factors that can control these. One should always use the internal test pattern as a starting point. This eliminates variables such as print driver settings, or variables within a given file. Test pattern 5 and 7 are the most commonly used prints used when evaluating print quality. As a generalization, the two factors most affecting line quality on the 8830 is the level of density, and exposure settings. Make sure the density is within specifications before adjusting exposure. If the internal test patterns look right, then a print driver setting would be the next place to look. The exception being if you are scanning. In the case of scanning, there are various adjustments on the scanner control panel that can greatly affect print output quality. This is particularly true of grey scales.
