    Docucolor 250 Colour Misregistration

Hi, I don't know if this post will save people some time, but I thought I'd document what I've been through with my docucolor 250 this past couple of weeks.

Two weeks ago my docucolor came up with an error 042-326. So, i removed the belt, cleaned the sensors, replaced the belt. No error, but the colour was badly out of registration.

Obtained the PWS software, connected the machine, ran the belt learn edge, used dc675 regi con setup cycle control to readjust, then ran dc671 regi con measurement cycle and it constantly failed. sometimes even running the dc675 regi con setup it would register all zeros, no values..

took off the tray 5, saw that it was printing the chevrons / arrows on the belt, and also dc673 mob sensor check worked okay. followed various threads on this and other forums and dismantled the mob assembly, removed the shutter, cleaned thoroughly, reassembled, nothing. all tests failed with lots of "NGS in dc671. reset the NVM, found the factory default settings in the hidden compartment in TRAY1 and manually reentered all the values. still, lots of NGS.

checked the numbers on the developer housing to make sure that they were correct - they were.

cleaned everything and inspected the IBT transfer module, cleaned out all the toner, even dismantled the 2nd BTR and cleaned out all the old toner - not sure why but i thought a good clean couldn't harm. still, nothing.

tested and cleaned the drums, and finally thought that oh, i wonder if the new corotron that i replaced about two months ago could be anything to do with the issue? i still had my old corotron unit, replaced it, and bingo, dc675 worked, dc671 worked fine too. registration works a treat! YIPPEEEEE. hurrahh.

whats not working now (and it used to), is that doing the procon in max setup - dc937 and the ADC minisetup for C M and Y fail.

also, the black isn't as black as it used to be - got plenty of toner, it just seems more pale in comparison to printouts that i had before this happened.

Many thanks to everyone on this forum who have kindly shared their experiences, I really hope that this post can save time and frustration for someone.

    All the best,

Were you able to fix the issue? I have the same problem with registration however the corotron thing did not work for me.
And after fussing alot with everything on the forums in the last few weeks, I also have the lighter than usual black when I print B&W

Its frustrating not to be able to find the problem.
It first started when I did a NVM reset to try to fix another problem that ended up being the fuser... now I have color misregistration bad and light black and white.

You have to use psw2000 mode to do colour calibration (regicon) then you can solve the colour misregistration.

What is PSW2000 mode? If you meen going in service mode on the machine I have been doing from there under registration. I can see the chevrons on the belt. One thing I had noticed a few weeks ago is sometimes the chevrons would show up on my prints.... Would that indicate a problem with the belt cleaner? Or the belt even? No errors showup. I have a new IBT coming and a IBT Cleaner on its way. The unit had about 400k prints.

I do have PSW for dc250 however not all functions work as I need some update for the dc252 and have yet to find it.

Another thing I am noticing now that is new is when I print grayscale...the dpi seems way off. The black is light and seems that its not printing solid.

When I print black in CMYK mode the black writing comes out ok.

It is unnecessary to use a PWS to do Diag on a 250. Log into CE mode and everything should be available to you.

The registration issue you have is likely directly related to the IBT cleaning blade. If it fails to properly clean the belt, it will make the chevrons un-readable to the MOB sensor. After replacing the cleaner, go to Registration and preform Reg control setup cycle/ Reg measurement cycle/ Reg sensor check. I you get a NG on any of them the issue is elsewhere. If all is good go the Test Patterns and run a pattern #1 in full color. If the grid is black you should be good.

If the belt cleaner fails to fix the issue look at your drums for wear along the ends, also check the Mylar seal on the developer for deformation.

          Good luck!
