[Misc] Excess Toner in Xerox M20i

When I got a message to replace the toner on my M20i and opened the door there was a ton of toner on the lower right as you face the door. There was so much that it fell onto the floor and was also in the door to the right where the drum is. I cleaned it all up and closed the door. But when I opened the door again, there was still more toner in the mechanism to clean up. I did that twice and then opened the door to take these pictures and there was still some toner -- although a lot less than when I first opened the door and took out the cartridge.

My question is: Does this appear to be a defective cartridge, a defective drum or something wrong with the machine? Except for this, the machine operates normally. I have another m20I and it doesn't do this.

Classic on this model. You have a case of the toner waste "trap door" not engaging the drum correctly. Let me explain. Of course when you open the right side you can open the toner/drum cover. Take out the toner and look at the waste toner "trap door" where it engages with the drum. Slide that door to the left, grab a screwdriver and poke the toner to fall into the waste cart, there is a black set of gears between the toner cart and waste toner cart that moves the flapper in the waste toner cart. Rotate it if you cannot get the toner down in there . This happens when the toner doesnt sit correctly but you can close the door. Tip is to rotate the white gear on the end of the toner cart and slide it back in. You are looking for the "smooth" opening when the toner is engaged with the drum.

    Hope this helps

Thanks for your detailed reply. Obviously you've got the solution. My problem is that -- as an end user -- I don't know all you think I know. LOL. I couldn't find anything that looked like this: "waste toner "trap door" where it engages with the drum." Maybe a picture with the indicated parts circled if that's not asking too much.

Hello all. As per the last post on this I am gonna include a pic. Below is a pic of the M20 cart. I have circled the Waste Toner section of the cart. The red arrow shows the direction to move the "Trap door" to the left. If you cant see the pic. The "trap door" is located directly under the "orange or peach" color knob on the drum that you have to squeeze to pull out the drum/SmartKit. When the toner is slid into place, look where the Drum and toner first meet and you can see the trap door move to the left during engagement. From here this is where a small flat head screw driver comes into hand to poke the toner back into the waste toner cart. I hope this helps with a better understanding.

Thanks. The pic was a big help. That, coupled with the text, makes it all clear -- what the problem is, why it develops and how to solve it.
