I wouldn't reset the drum on this machine unless you like changing developer. When you reset the drum it causes the machine to pull developer and causes barber pole deletions.
I haven't had that happen much at all. We used to replace these crums all the time to extend drum life. We would only replace the drums once they started causing image quality problems. You should be able to get 125-150% life out of the drums. If the replacement crum has 50% or more life on it when you have to finally install a new drum, save it to put on the new drum when it gets down to 0% to extend its life (extend 2 drum lives with 1 replacement crum). I very rarely had an issue with the developer.
Dev will get pulled if the continuity from the outer race of both bearings is too high (over 300 if I remember) - Loss of ground. Charge becomes too hi - toward 0. Since this is more + than the dev housing, that's where the dev goes.
