[Misc] Need assistance with donated Xerox Color 550 -- Cannot access UI Diag + other issues.

    Hello Folks,

I work with a non profit organization out on Long Island NY (TSC@W) & a volunteer had donated to us a Xerox Color 550 with XVE Professional Finisher. We are having nothing but issues getting this unit up and running.

The first fault I was working through was 121-333....with information gathered from here I was able to access the NVM and change 850-001 to 0. Ever since I set this I have been unable to get back into the UI Diag/Maint. Screen. It seems to make all the motions, I can enter the 6789 and confirm that password, the log/in indication lights up, but when I push log in the machine just beeps instead of giving me the normal setup type screen.

Before I can tackle the other issues I think I need to first get back into the maintenance screen (two drums are at 0% life, so want to bypass that first just to make sure the darn unit works!)

But I just can't get back into it, no matter what I try. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!

As a side note the other issues we are having, the finisher is convinced we have a jam at the entrance 012-901 but the path and everything is clear, would you folks think its the entrance sensor causing this issue?

Other error codes are 021-215 & 027-741... still wondering if the person donating the unit knew there were these issues on it!

    Thanks!

    -Jeff

Re: Need assistance with donated Xerox Color 550 -- Cannot access UI Diag + other iss

Well congrats on getting someone to donate this beautiful machine to you. Now the meat and potatoes of this. Long story short you are screwed. Whoever told you to change that NVM must not have told you that the device must be connected to the machine in order to remove it from the memory. The machine is set with a security feature and now the machine is acting in the way it was designed to. You had what they call an FDI Foreign Device Interface meaning that something external was blocking access to the machine, ie CoinVend, Card Reader, Accounting hardware. If the machine is enabled with that feature (in this case NVM location) and someone comes up behind the machine and says I am gonna make some copies without anyone knowing and pull out the USB, you have disabled the machine from working anymore without the Device attached or reset by computer. Now that person that donated that machine to you knew what they were doing and changed the password and username so this machine cannot be accessed outside of Xerox or customer location. Your only hope is to call your local Xerox office or 1-800-ASK-XEROX with your CC ready. If and when you come across this issue in the future please consult this website and ask for advice before you start changing things in the machine that can be bad. If you contacted someone here on this site before you changed that NVM location, I could have walked you through step by step of how to disable this feature the correct way, but now it seems you are not the correct person to be inside that machine.

        Hope that helps
