Here are some things to check:
To clear the error, you will need to power off / on the copier each time it come up.
Fully remove trays 1 & 2 so that you can see behind tray 3 with it pulled out to it's limit.
Check behind tray 3 for paper stuck at the paper lift motor gear. If the motor gear & lift cable gear on the tray can not mesh due to paper stuck between this can cause the error you are getting.
If no paper is stuck, check the lift cables on tray 3 to see if any are broken. If so, they will need to be replaced.
With no paper in tray 3, reach behind tray 3 and turn the lift gear by hand to ensure that the bottom plate can physically lift up all the way and is not mechanically bound in any way.
If no paper and lift cables are ok, with paper loaded in tray 3 and the error reset by power off / on, when machine is at Ready, close tray 3. Do you hear the lift motor turning but paper is not lifting? If yes, first check to see if your lift motor has an external sensor with pulse disk. If yes, check that the sensor & disk are installed properly and not loose / broken. Otherwise, you have broken gears inside the lift motor unit. Although you can open up the unit, the gears are not available by themselves, you will need to replace the lift unit. -
