I have a WC7830 xerox with a constant reboot issue, on switch on the machine shows the green energy save screen for 2 mins then goes black for 20 secs then the machine reboots and the cycle starts again, tried reseating the RAM card and SD card without effect. Tried the AltBoot firmware upgrade on a memory stick and has no effect. The machine does not seem to read the USB stick and carries on with the reboot cycles as before. Is this the HDD or the image logic?

Re: Xerox workcentre 7830
You can remove from machine the HDD and format it on a PC and do de AltBoot again.Comment

Re: Xerox workcentre 7830
Thanks EXOK for the quick response, the fan on the controller is working and I can hear the HDD slightly when the machine reboots. I thought the HDD's were specific and the machine boots from them, I know on the old 7750/7760 you could not use a standard HDD and they would not even copy. The Machine never gets far enough in to the boot sequence for me to access the diags menu, I.m tempted to order both processor logic and HDD just in case this is a cascade failure.Comment

Re: Xerox workcentre 7830
The machine does need the HDD to boot as that is where the system software is stored. You can use any HDD though. If using a new or recently formatted HDD, you will need to perform an AltBoot software load to start off before the machine will work. You can find system software for this model available to download at xerox.com (Make sure it is for the 7830, there is different software for the higher speed models in this same family)
Download and unzip the DLM file. Use a small USB thumb drive (2-4G). Create a folder on the drive named "AltBoot". Place the DLM file in the folder.
Plug in the thumb drive in one of the USB ports at rear (on the controller). Power on and the machine should enter "software upgrade" mode in a few minutes.Comment

Re: Xerox workcentre 7830
OK, update latest. fitted new HDD and used Altboot usb stick (needed to have a forced-upgrade 0 bit file in the Altboot folder) and the machine is now working, most of the config settings were lost but the customers own IT people are dealing with the network side, I had to calibrate the density and regicon sensors but at least the beast is working! Many thanks.Comment
