      This could be caused by several things:

      Bad exposure lamp: This is the most frequent cause for this problem. As the lamp ages, the light output will drop. Once the output gets too low, the machine will declare a fault. If the lamp is bad, the edge of the lamp will be dark in color like typical florescent lamp as it ages.

      Defective Illumination Sensor: The sensor is mounted in front of the lamp, facing the open slot in the lamp. You can try running the machine in diagnostics, and look at the output of the lamp displayed when running 0921-5. Sometimes, you can adjust the angle of the illumination sensor to maximize this output reading.

      Defective Lamp Ballast Board: If the exposure lamp light level does not change as you change the Copy Lighter / Darker button, the lamp ballast may be bad.
