Cloning harddrive WC 245 and 265

    Ladies and Gentleman,

Can anyone explain me how to clone a harddrive in the Controller on the back of these machines(WC 245 and WC265)? Or if there is another way to restore these drives, if there is and you know how to, please reply to this thread.

I've got several of these machines(only 3 with a harddrive) but somebody was so kind to remove the harddrives for me. I've tried several clone software promgrams such as acronis and ghost but they don't seem to recognize the harddrive.

    Any suggestions are really welcome!

    Kind regards,

    Artphil

You can not clone this HDD with any program.

Xerox put some protection on them and PC can not recognize them.

Only way is to use oridinary PC HDD an to download firmware on it.

      HDD

      Thanks XCOPYTECH,

for the crystal clear and quick reply.

Ofcourse my next question I'd like to ask if anyone has the firmware for this machine e.g. tools to put the firmware on any harddrive.

      Kind regards,

      Artphil

          GHOST or Acronis

          Hi, thanks for the reply
          But this doesn't work.

I tried both but the only program capable is an Xerox tool.

The firmware and the download tools are proprietary to Xerox. Therefore, only a xerox tech/ contractor has these tools. Other sources may come from copies or hacks which is not recommended.

Those controllers run SUN SOLARIS as an operating system. Can't they just be cloned by using another machine running solaris and a Solaris version of Ghost? has anyone tried that?

If you use Solaris 8 see below

The DP6135 and old 6100 run on Solaris 2.6 for that i don't know.

                NO, as I know.

Only way is to reload firmware with xerox pws.

On newer machines, hard drives cannot even be swapped from machine to machine without software reload. This is at the request of customers wanting to protect their private data and settings. The only way a swapped hard drive will boot completely is to have Xerox reload all of the software. As someone said previously, this is a proprietary software which will not be given out to non authorized people. Xerox must perform the repair.

In the first place, why would you swap hdds? If customers want to protect their private data, I think files being sent/ spooled to the hdd should have a backup profile from a computer source. Settings are profiles unique to each machine which means xerox has imposed a tighter security (on new machines) in case anyone would want to swap the hdd from 1 machine to another. So, nothing needs to be repaired because in the first place there is no problem involved
