PWS laptop license stopped working after using it for a year - help with error?

I have a Compaq Armada PWS that I've been using for a year. Last night I was connected to a DC12 and did a fuser nip test and disconnected. Now I'm getting an error when I boot up after I log in that says "PWSLock is not properly licensed for this machine" in place of the normal window that I enter the PWSLock password. I didn't make any changes to the laptop that I'm aware of. Does anyone have any advice?

Run pwslinst.exe and set the new passwd.

When I do and select manual mode, it wants an authorization string. I don't know where to get that - it was on the laptop when I bought it. I don't understand what happened - i didn't make any changes to the licensing part of things and never have - it acts like i lost the auth string that was in there. It's running Windows 98.
