Xerox Document Centre 230ST-Not Ready To Copy?

    Hi everyone,

I recently acquired a Document Centre 230ST with four trays and the high capacity portion on the side. Upon setting it up, the copier reads "Not Ready To Copy". I found a workup of common problems with these models at http://www.partsdrop.com/techinfo/enx_DC220cop1.pdf and have followed the directions outlined to no avail. The copier is NOT throwing any codes at all, it just is telling me it's not ready to copy. Upon entering diagnostics, User Interface
(UI) is the only software level displayed. The link I gave said that it is a communications problem if that's the case.. The issue is I don't know where the communications problem comes into play. It displays the UI software as 20.4X. It displays nothing for DC, MF, and IIT...and for ESS, G3, HCF, and DSS it reads not installed. I don't have any software with the copier. Ah, also, it seems to think all the tray doors are open when they are clearly not open. When I choose an individual tray to print from, it tells me to close that tray. I've opened and closed them all, taken them out, checked for obvious problems...nothing. I could really use some help here if anyone has the time to take this issue on. I would be greatly appreciative and thanks in advance to anyone who may know what to do.

    Hi there,

Thanks for your response. Please excuse my extreme ignorance here, but I wasn't exactly following what you said. I disconnected some cables but I'm unsure in terms of what is what. What is a PWB? And I'm also unsure what a MCU and MFSYS are. I'm going to post up some pics of what I think they might be-if I'm wrong, please feel free to kick me and let me know. I'm decent with electronics and have no problem following directions, I just am unfamiliar with copy machines as far as what does what and I don't currently have a service manual for this. Again, thanks for the reply and I'll give this thing another shot.

    Take care,
    Nate

Actually, scratch that regarding the pictures. I have no idea what cables are what. And how do I reset them? Just unplug them and plug them back in or is there a more involved process?

      Thanks again,
      Nate

Sorry for so many posts-one other quick question is why does the thing think all the trays are open? Is this still to do with the communication issues it's having?

        Thanks,
        Nate

Hey-anyone see this that knows what I might try and do? I don't understand the directions of the last person.

            Thanks!

hi, have you try to check the flat cable connect between ESS and IIT, if the Copy button not working, you can try this, but the problem could not fix, you may be check the fuser.

Again, I really appreciate the reply, but I'm not sure what the ESS and the IIT are. Is there a place to get a manual for this thing that anyone knows about?

In the back of the white box there are several plug things. Make sure the machine is off unplug all of them (remember where they go) and plug them back in. Then turn it back on. PWB ekwulz POWER BOARD. ESS ekwulz THE NETWORK PRINT CONTROL SYSTEM (basically)Located at the top of the white box(printer)look for a floppy disc slot at the front and 2 plugs and a thumb scew at the back. IIT Ekwult the IMAGE IMPUT TERMINAL Aka the scanner(where the green light comes out of)You probably have a software/connection problem. Happens frequently.

Ok...update on this machine. I still cannot get anything to come out of it. I still get "not ready to copy". I messed with it for over 4 hours the other day, unplugged every connection I could find, plugged them back in, and no new developments. I want to say the floppy disk drive on the front started reading and I believe I heard a possible internal hard drive for the first time? No fault codes are being thrown and there are no fault codes in the history that I can find. Oh, one other odd thing, the unit still believes that the trays are all open when they are fully shut. It doesn't initially say anything about the trays unless I use the touchscreen to highlight them individually, then it will say close tray 1, close tray 2, etc.

Copiertechofomens-just out of curiosity, where are you located in NY? I'm getting close to bringing this into someone, but I doubt I can really afford it. If you have the time or patience or interest, feel free to e-mail me off list at my username @yahoo.com I'm in Syracuse.

                    Thanks for any further help!

One other question-would pictures of what I've done so far help anyone diagnose any possible issues?

                        Hey all,

I was working on this thing again today and noticed something I had not noticed before...

If you look towards the bottom left of this picture, you will see a burned out chip that is marked C4 on the board. I am not sure what this is or what it controls. Is it possible that this is the cause of my problems? Could this be why the copier thinks all the trays are open when they are not?

Any suggestions or help that could be given from here would be VERY appreciated-can this be fixed or do I need to find a new board?
