I've been out of the field for so long,, so take this with a grain of salt.

This used to be a huge problem on the older DocuTech software, The decomposer could be turned off with a click of an icon.

They moved the decomposer turn on/turn off to avoid the problem,, you will have to look for it,

but the result was identical to what you report.

The job went over to the server without problem,, then just sat there -- endlessly, without any error.

          AAAhhh,, it's coming back.
They used to call it Pause Decomposer
Fifteen years ago,, little screen in the upper right hand corner of a monster Sun CRT monitor ran the whole show.

There is a DocuSP/FreeFlow simulator you can download from GSN,, runs on a PC,, helps a lot in identifying just where everything is. Hard to keep it all in your head. Not a real server,, it won't process files, but if you are doing tech support remotely,, nice to have.

After 7.xx FreeFlow became a universal platform across all the machines. Made life so much easier.
Still a lot of hinks in the software, but that was always Mother X
