    Ckeaning IBT Belt

    Hi all
What cleaner do you use (strongest) on image belt for stubborn 'baked on' toner band.
I have used isopropyl alcohol that removed most of it but some remains.
What is the strongest you use without trashing the belt?
New belt is not viable for this machine.
    cheers
    Glenn

I don't know why or how you would end up with caked on toner...and while Phil is correct about changing out the belt, I would recommend using mineral spirits followed by denatured alcohol. Really, those are the only two solvents I have carried around for decades other than some Simple Green for cleaning panels and whatnot.

          Thanks Caffeinekid,
I know Phil is correct but it's an old machine and he doesn't want to pay the $350+ for new belt. The belt has not done that many copies and seems OK other than the said defects. I was off with the description, they are like 2 stripes across belt about 2.5" apart and approx 1/8" wide. After cleaning with alcohol they remain as a slightly rough area. After cleaning defects return about 150 copies.
I just thought there might be some magic method out there that I had missed.

I'd suggest to him a Chinese belt at 1/2 the price but I have had bad experiences with various Chinese parts in the past.
Anyone out there used Chinese belts before?
          cheers
          Glenn

            1) china belts are crap
            2) oem belts aren't much better
            3) if you do use just a belt .. you might want to buy the belt cleaner also
            4) if using 3rd party toner STOP that fucks up a belt quicker than anything.

I love end users that try to cheep out on xerox repairs... always comes back to bite them.

Short-term: Get a cloth with some waste toner on it & clean with that! Long-term: - replace the belt!!!!! lol

as a last ditch effort on a dying transfer belt I use wd40 and with my finger try to loosen up the toner quickly then after all loose use 99% alcohol wipe clean, this will loosen up stuck toner but has a possibility of damaging the belt. Before doing this, advise your customer that you can remove the toner spot but has a chance at destroying or shorten the life of this belt because of how sensitive the material is that makes the belt.
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.

I would try Orange Power citrus cleaner but dont know if it would damage belt.
