    Re: xerox

You altboot with a usb using the freely available firmware on xerox.com

Details on USB file/folder structure are on your service manual under general procedures.

don't some xerox require USB a-to-b cable and software?

Some do, but not this one. The USB cable method tends to be on their production kit and not the office Workcentre/AltaLink/VersaLinm range

Older machines and production, yes. And, there's the PuTTY tool, as well, but that's a different story. But, on this one a simple altboot directory on a USB that contains the .dlm and an empty text file (with no extension) named FORCED_UPGRADE will do the trick. If you want to wipe it out during the alboot, also include a similar file named DISABLE_DATA_BACKUP in the altboot directory as well. Depending on how far up the FW ladder you are going, it might just wipe it anyway. Be aware, an altboot takes a while.
