docucolor 242 drum streaks - any tips to rejuvenate / clean ?

I'm a customer and I've only had my machine for two months now, so be gentle

Yellow customer replaceable drum unit has two solid yellow streaks - very thin lines that print solid yellow in all color areas. Changing yellow and magenta drum, lines follow the one drum unit. Machine reports 49% life remaining; I have printed 15,000 11x17 and 12x18 color prints and about 43,000 total prints with this drum in the docucolor. Are there any tips for cleaning / rejuvenating this drum unit before sending it back to xerox for recycling/rebuild?

It is possible to clean the BCR charge roller with soap and water then dry it with dry soft cloth, but the drum unit needs to be disassembled . VERY carefully. And if you are not trained service technician you can damage it really easy. But usually BCR is damaged and there is nothing you can do.

Thanks very much Kalindd -- if disassembly is required I'll send it in since I'm sure they're setup to rebuild them quicker than I could take it apart and clean it here. Just wanted to be sure there weren't any 2-second procedures/tricks to try before wasting their time with a premature change.

One other question: what's the difference between the blue drums (which shipped with the machine) and the green drums? The reason I ask is because I just installed a brand new xerox drum (11/28/08 for 242, 252, etc. stamped on the brown box) that has a green coating and after doing the color cal calibration twice (to be sure it wasn't me) the gradiation between 0% and 100% isn't quite as smooth as the blue coated drum which was installed in the machine as delivered. It's ok, but not quite as even.

Or is there any other step that should be performed to calibrate the machine when changing a customer replaceable drum unit?

No, there is no any other adjustment needed.
The difference is: blue-made in China, green-made in Mexico, as far as I know.
