Machine End of Life - No License Renewal

I helped a client last week who had an interesting problem.

Xerox refused to renew his license because they were "end of lifing" the machine.
They told him he would have to upgrade to a different machine.

This sounded odd, as the most profitable part of Xerox has to be annual license renewals.

Has anyone else come across this ?

I believe the most profitable part of xerox is from selling a brand new machine + full service maintenance contract.

    I also come accross this.

Like mobile phone / car manufacturer, they always comes out new model every year / every few years.

        It was a 700

It was outside of the US,, and Xerox business practices vary by country (basically,, what they can get away with).
