there is a space for smtp, etc., but I can't make the darn thing work. I am sure there are just some settings I am missing. I just wish there were some instructions online or somewhere that can walk me through this.

You said "there is a space for SMTP...". Where is it?

I have worked with DOCUCOLOR models and so far I haven't come across the scan-to-email function. Maybe a DOCUCENTER/ DOCUMENT CENTER/ APEOSPORT series, they can scan-to-email
