    Xerox 7830 image quality issues

this is my little project machine. so the next thing I got to look at here is the image quality. when I moved to the machine I pulled out all of the toner, drums, and transfer belt. and upon putting them back in, I get these smudges. I assume it's probably the drums? I don't know, the yellow is different than the black/blue marks.

the second image is what happens when I try to copy something with the scanner, and it's much worse. not really sure what's going on there. any advice or experiences appreciated.

EDIT: the second issue (with copying) has been solved. The platen glass was not laying flat correctly in the copier. So now it's just the smudges.

defects on both black and yellow seem to repeat at same distance. Print the repeating defects page as shown here and compare it with the print. This will tell where to focus the troubleshooting efforts.

I forgot to mention that I did do the repeating defects sheet, and the vertical defects do line up with the drum cartridge marks, or alternatively diffuser heat belt (they're the same). but I really don't think it's the fuser. so I should try some new drums I think.

my only question then is are drums part of the managed/sold consumables? because I checked the machine configuration page and it says that it's in sold mode, and I don't want to inadvertently change it to managed mode. I think I've got the correct part numbers for sold Xerox toner, but I'm not sure about the drums. how do you know which one you're getting?

Drums are not divided on metered/sold/dmo and only one drum for all colours is available on these series.

Yeah right, metered is what I meant. Thanks for that info!

I have one more question for anyone: I keep getting a message about Immediate Image Overwrite error, but when I try and find the setting to perform the overwrite it is not there. It's supposed to be under 'security' settings according to what I read, but there is no such setting. Below shows all the security settings, from either the panel or the web interface.

You can do it from the machine touch screen. Login as an administrator first and perform overwrite now.

Well as you guys can see on my image, it's just not there. Everything else is the same as yours. It is the same from the control panel UI. Now I am on system version 73, but I assume that shouldn't matter since I am getting the error message. It's very strange. It's some new quirk every day with this machine.

not necessarily related but I strongly recommend you upgrade to 075, especially for all that involves security, for ex. SSL certificates (fact). This may also impact job services as they can be encrypted, some features might be obsolete, etc. (all non proven and non-data-based assumptions)
