    Xerox 7845 toner error

My machine started giving a toner empty on cyan... New cartridge (I rotated three cartridges), same error, cleaned contacts, same error.
The machine also started making a mechanical/clicking noise, which I suspect comes from the gearbox mentioned below... search revealed an old thread

"The little gears that drive the toner dispense pipe can hairline crack, either on the actual toner dispense pipe or on the gearbox at the rear of the machine that drives it. Swap the gearbox with one of the other colours and see if the fault follows the gearbox"

What's the best and quickest way to get to the bottom of this?
    thanks!

A little clarification. It just occurred to me... After changing the toner cartridge the first time, I noticed a little toner blowout & didn't make much of it. I'm now assuming the gearbox is busted.

    1. Disassembly toner dispensing system CYMK
    2. What color did you have error? try manually rotate the toner dispensing system of that color and see whether the toner toner auger inside is rotating freely and easily. Otherwise you have bent / broken toner auger.

    Good luck

Thank you. I'll take the machine apart today and see how it goes.

Hi. Have you tried rotating the auger screw on the rear of the toner cartridge to ensure that the toner isn't compacted and is able to be transferred freely?

I removed the dispenser unit and cyan was indeed completely backed up and compacted. I managed to clean it out & everything is moving freely again.

          thank you!
