Xerox WC7225 - Replace Black Toner Light

I have a WC7225 that keeps getting the "Replace Black Toner" after replacing the toner cartridge. The first cartridge was empty, and after installing the new one (OEM) it still called for new toner. I inspected the chip and cleaned where it contacts at back of machine. It still called for toner so I swapped chips between original empty cartridge and the new one and still got add toner message. Then I pulled out the black drum unit and inspected where toner enters from the toner cartridge and it look like it was packed, so I stirred it around and reinstalled into the machine. When I turned the machine back on and it completed initializing, no add toner indication. I ran at least 50+ pages with no problem. The customer has called back again about 10 days later with the same problem.

I'm thinking it might be the T/D sensor built into the drum/Process Unit. Any of you Xerox guys have any input experience or input with this problem? Thought I would check before ordering and installing a new black drum unit. Thanks!

I encountered this also a few times. It usually happens when I used compatible toner.

The K ATC value difference between the measured and target value is very high.
for example, the machine target of K ATC value is 600, but the measured value of K ATC value is 650ish.
high ATC value = low toner density. CMIIW
The machine will request toner to developing unit to bring the K ATC value closer to 600 (target).
However since I'm using compatible toner, the supplied toner will not bring down the ATC Value.

The solution is to change new black drum cartridge and use original toner.

you can reuse the drum cartridge, but it can only print text / small pictures.

If you print a lot of black, the please replace black toner will occur again.

What is ATC value. ATC sensor measure the toner density? That one?

It's the black toner dispenser. Very common problem. The auger system is not transferring toner to the drum

So where is the black toner dispenser located? Is it part of the drum unit or inside the machine cavity? I don't have access to a WC7225 Service or Parts manual to locate it or read theory of operation.

It's the black piece the toner cartridge sits on. You'll have to remove all of the consumables. Front and right side covers and top exit cover. Remove hvps on right side. You can get to the dispenser now. 2 screws hold it in I think. One in front and one in back. You really need the Xerox edoc for this if you've never done it. Xerox is the only place I know to get the part

Thanks Jettdog for the information. Would you happen to have a link for the service & parts manuals?

Is it the Dispenser Assembly K (part number 094K93290) or is it the Dispenser Motor Assembly (part number 127K61210), or maybe the Dispenser Cover Assembly (part number 848K38670 / 848K38671) that you are referring to? I found a site that showed the picture and description of most WC7225 Parts.

                Thanks!

I went back to my customer, after reviewing how to get to the black dispenser assembly. I slowly and carefully disassembled the machine and was able to remove the assembly. I took it completely apart and found it totally packed with toner. Nothing was broken, so after cleaning out all of all toner, I reinstalled the assembly and reassembled the machine. After it initialized and ran for several minutes still saying "Replace Black Toner", it finally got satisfied. Whew, what a job, but it seemed to be all it needed. It is printing and making copies, without the replace toner indication coming back on.

Thanks again, Jettdog for your help!!

                        Heck yeah,

Not that bad of a job if you've done it before. Usually there's also a grinding noise associated with the error.
