Hello, i am wondering if anyone has any thoughts on this.

Xerox has posts for other model lines to reset the software.

of course, if it wont wake up, not sure how to get into it??


maybe a bad HDD or MCU cooling fan?

Hi all,
just a follow up in case it helps anyone

i was able to find a long thread here from 2014, and continued for a while.
so i followed the advice.

i replaced the HDD.
then loaded the ALTBOOT file onto a USB drive. but the machine POS just kept doing the same thing, cycling from green screen, black, then repeats.

i tried the rear 2 jacks, the front usb jack. even tried both the non and connect key versions of the system software.

tried with and without the 0 bit FORCED_UPGRADE file.

nothing worked.
i did see an entry in the service log from 2016 that there was a green screen. the tech couldn't do a forced upgrade, then replaced the HDD, and did the forced upgrade.


so, there must be something i am missing.

and i didn't realize, DUH, that this is a color crayon printer. they make great prints, just a dumb process i don't mess with.

so, the posts here from 2014, said that rare if it isn't a system software issue, other is the Ime or UI board.

but i cant find any parts for it thru normal channels.

Just checking you are trying the altboot correctly.,
You need to have a <16Gb formatted to FAT pen drive as CQ's are really fussy with them. There should be a folder in there named AltBoot and then the firmware .fls file and forced_upgrade file put inside of that folder.
If the machine is non-keyconnect, you would need to follow the correct upgrade procedure, and once you have gone to keyconnect 071 or above, you cannot go back to non-keyconnect 061.
But the correct answer is to push the thing outside and leave for scrapman, they are absolute pieces of utter shite.

yes, i was using a 16 GB FAT32 and also a 32 GB.

i tried everything, the last way was a ALTBOOT folder, and inside that was a the 418MB colorqube DLM file.

i also tried a ALTBOOT folder, then inside that was a 0 byte FORCED_UPGRADE and the 3 DLM files called clone fixv1, colorQube_9301-9303_system-sw#07218000409101#, and the snmp file.


i also tried several other configurations with different things there with it or not.

i read the non connect to connectkey takes an hour or two.

i first waited 40 minutes.
since the thing wont boot, i have no way of knowing what system version it had.

but no matter wat i had on the USB drive, it goes onto green screen for ? a minute or two, then off for the same and repeats.

and every way i tried it was the same.

i had done an ALTBOOT on a work center a while back, and i think after i booted with the USB, it either asked me to ok something, or at least showed some sort of progress on the screen so i knew that it was loading something.

i would like to at least get it booted for them, but i have googled for parts, and all i found was a print head.


and i remember the Phasers, and the only thing i ever allowed myself to do on those was some paper feed stuff.

i didn't want to get involved in the print process.

The Altboot folder should contain just 1x .dlm file, as it won't know which to choose. I would create the AltBoot folder and bang the large .dlm file in there along with forced_upgrade file. Also, just to check, if you double click the forced_upgrade file, does it open in notepad as a blank text document? If so the file won't work. It should ask you to associate a program to open it.

Hi chubbies,

yesterday i was able to go back to the Xerox site and found a different procedure.
there is a connect key, and non connect key.


with the connect it doesn't show a USB upgrade, only a web interface.

with the non connect it lists both ways.

ands with the USB method, this is saying now to have a file called OPOGRADE, and NOT ALTBOOT.

and then it says to put the large DLM file inside that, with nothing else there, and to insert the usb drive in the left port while the machine is on.


this is much different than the other explanation i first found.


so, i have loaded that, and i thank you, i will load yours on another drive and see what happens.

when i open your file, it says 0 bytes, and when i attempt to open it, it asks like you said, for a program to open it.


the DLM files i had tried last week, one opened like that, the other was just script.

so, i will try both, and with it on and off if one way don't work.

is the file you provided just the active ALTBOOT, and i need to drag the DLM system file into that??
or just use it the way you uploaded?

Hiya, you need to format a USB, create a folder called AltBoot, and then load the forced_upgrade file and .dlm file into that folder, and that should work.

chubbies, this darn page.

The other day, i wrote out all that i did, and it still didn't work.

i hit post. today i saw it still there. I hit reply and it tells me it didn't send because i didn't log back in. and now the info is gone...

anyway, i had entered your altboot info, same thing.
i tried a few different things. and even tried the other Xerox method to call it UPGRADE, and not to have a ALTBOOT file in the root.


nothing worked. i found an old printout and it had the old non connect key version, which i also tried to force load.


the green screen keeps going on for a minute or so, then off for a minute or so, and repeats.


so, i told the customer it needs a board, that i cant get.


i do appreciate your help, and wish i had the original info here so you would have a better idea of what i did and found.
