    Xerox workcentre 7225

We have a Xerox 7225 that has to be returned to the leasing company. When I turn it on the screen quickly comes up stating "Please wait...system is powering up do not press power button again while power up is in progress." It stays that way indefinitely without running or progressing to a ready state, still displaying that message. The help light is flashing all the time.

I've tried restarting, same result. We are not a Xerox dealer and I know next to nothing about this machine. Does anyone have experience with this problem?

Most likely a faulty hdd. You can try reloading firmware using the altboot procedure before replacing it to try and get it good enough for the leasing company

Looks like a u with a flashing dot to the upper left. See picture, that's the only 7 segment display I find.

Thanks Mr. Penguin. Can you describe the altboot procedure and where on the equipment the hard drive is located in case I have to replace it? Do I have to format the new hard drive in technician mode?

I think I just downloaded the correct firmware from the Xerox site.

            Download firmware from xerox site.
On usb stick create folder altboot
Copy firmware dlm file to altboot folder.
Put usb stick in machine and power on machine
Firmware upgrade should start for a couple minutes

HDD is located at the back on the right. Loosen 2 flat (not philips) screws and open rhe cover.
Try altboot first like described above.

Thanks for the replies. The firmware upgrade worked and the machine comes to ready now. For a while it behaved erratically, restarting unexpectedly a few times. Then it went into a data encryption sequence all by itself. Just before I went home yesterday I ran some copies then did an on demand full image overwrite and deleted the contacts in the address book.

One thing that bothers me is that the document feeder does not work, it keeps asking to "Lower the document feeder" when I place originals even though it is down. Yesterday I know I fed an original and made a copy. The black arm that the feeder actuates when lowered causes the scan lamp to turn on and move so I assume there is another switch somewhere that tells the machine the document feeder is down. I might be able to skip fixing this but I would like to anyway if someone knows what I should check.

I appreciate the help so much. I don't think I could have figured this out on my own.

There's a magnet in the front cover of the adf. If you have the front cover off or the magnet is missing, it will declare that the adf is open.

Cracked hinges. Known issue on this model. The hinge mounts crack and mean the black plunger isn't pushed down quite far enough. You can sometimes buy yourself a bit longer by gluing a small coin to the underside of the raised ADF so it presses the black plunger better.

The proper fix is to fit the hinge repair kits

hinge repair kit right - 00655N524
hinge repair kit left - 00655N532

                      Stick something above actuator.
You can also press down adf where actuator is located to test.

If you noticed unexpected behaviour after altboot then your hdd can be failing
