    Versant 80 Bad Drums

    Hi Everyone,

Have a V80 that causes dot's / freckles on the OPC drum (all colors). Drum needs to be replaced and will come back after 100 pages

Has anyone seen this issue before?

Was a lots of problems with drum quality on 2014, 2017, 2019,2020 years.
Probably main cause for that was bad developer for 2020 year problems. Xerox recomand to change all four developer assy. You can try to change only the dev material in all developer units.

From my understanding, there was a worldwide issue with Xerox Versant toner (V80-V4100). Caused arcing on the drum surface. Xerox was hit with a class-action lawsuit, because apparently the knew about the defect but hide in the dark while dealers and customers suffered for nearly 3 years. Now, the toner has been redesigned and the issue should be fixed. Make sure you're getting the latest toner and get rid of the old ones.

Do you know the status of that lawsuit, or where we can follow its progress? I don't have any Versants, but I've followed the reports from many, so many customers and I'm in awe of Xerox's negligence and incompetence in the Versant toner issue. I mean, all big companies do some lame stuff every now and then, but this was a whole different level.

I wish the sale of Xerox to Fuji Xerox had gone through a few years ago. Fuji Xerox is primo-top-notch with their quality. All Xerox (except iGen) toner based color machines are actually Fuji Xerox (now "Fujifilm Business Innovations") products. The North America Xerox (the 'original' company) actually just buys them from Fuji. Now that the Fujifilm+Xerox cooperative technology agreement has ended, Xerox is literally just buying Fuji products and slapping their name on it.

The problems we end up having with toner and drums (though none have been as bad as the Versant debacle) are 100% down to Xerox, not Fuji. When a new model machine is introduced, Xerox always imports the toner and drums direct from Fuji. However, after the machine has been in the field for a while, Xerox "domesticates" (as they call it) the toner and drums and begin making them locally, rather than continue importing it from Japan.

You can always tell when a supply has been domesticated because the original Fuji packaging is always very high quality (larger, thick strong cardboard boxes, plastic/styrofoam protector pieces, clean, etc) and the domesticated products are in really crappy thin cardboard boxes, usually no protection in the box at all, very dusty with cardboard dust, clearly factory refilled often, and as minimal packaging as possible.

The PACKAGING doesn't make the product good or bad, of course, but the same mentality that when into skimping pennies with the cheap flimsy low quality packaging goes into the actual product.

As big of a fan of Xerox as I am, I'm really a fan of the products, which are Fuji, not Xerox, the local company that just sells them. I hope they get absolutely eviscerated in this lawsuit. I mean, literally crying. I know so many fellow printers who relied on their Versant and went out of business because they simply could not produce anything with their press, and Xerox was still an absolute a*****e about their lease payments and everything, even though they were directly driving them into the ground.

        I'm not bitter. I'm angry.

No update specifically but some comments in the comment section are recent and still full of piss and vinegar.
