Xerox Workcentre 7830 "The Device is not available"

    20231005_214705 (1).jpg

Hi, I'm hoping someone here might have some wisdom as to how to proceed with this problem.

I'm a home-office user of a rather ageing Xerox 7830. Yesterday I switched on to be greeted by a "The Device is not available" error message, see attached pic. I've tried following the advice - to switch off and on again to no avail (repeated several times).

I visited Device is Not Available Message Reset the Device which suggests

    (1) disconnecting network cable, reseting the printer and reconnecting, but it doesn't work either.
    (2) Perform a software reset (which can't be done as none of the buttons work and the device is no longer on my network so can't access that way either.
    (3) Perform an on demand/anual image overwrite from the control panel - again impossible as the control panel can't be accessed.

After which, I'm a bit stuck. Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

    Thanks

It might help to note that the LED diagnostic display is showing C and F and A. If anyone has a guide to what this means, that would be helpful too!

        Perform the following:
        1. Refer to REP 3.1 to remove the Rear Upper Cover, and REP 3.2 to gain access to the Fax module.
        2. Use the Compact Flash Card Reader 600T 2275, or use the New Flash Card PCMCIA adapter (600T02291) to save the dialing directory data and erase the corrupt information on the flash card. Here is how that is done:
          1. Power off the machine.
          2. Remove the compact flash card from the Fax PWB.
          3. Install the compact flash card into the reader.
          4. Connect the flash card reader to your PWS.
          5. Copy the directory folder to your hard drive.
          6. Erase all the information from the flash card (DO NOT FORMAT)
          7. Re-install the flash card into the machine.
          8. Power on the machine on and perform the Fax install wizard.
          9. After the wizard completes, remove the flash card and copy the directory folder back onto the card and install it back into the machine.
          10. When completed, perform the Fax setup routine.

        3. Refer to the configuration page to ensure the fax software level is correct for the version of system software installed - use GP 8 to reload system software as required.
        4. If the problem remains, then replace the FAX module.

NOTE: If the machine has Fax Forwarding enabled, it is possible that the the fax memory can be corrupted, resulting in a message on the UI to "Reset the machine...". This problem was fixed in SPAR system software 061.090.221.15700 and higher.
