must have xerox pws software, machine software and TTL adapter if you want to do UI firmware upgrade, for ESS (controller) upgrade must have mini centronics and null modem cable.

Oh!! I thought all the software upgrades were made from floppy? That must just be for the user upgrades like scan to file, fax, and so on. I suspect it would be extremely difficult to get the software now, but if it needs the pws then it is academic anyway as that is out of my reach. Does the ESS also need the pws software? The mini centronics connector is the left-most one on the interface card is it?
You can have files to enable the "scan" on my xerox dc440?
The scan function requires at least 3 components: (1) Hardware including PCB(s), SCSI (I think) cable, and hard disk; (2) I think various software components of the system such as ESS require minimum version levels - if a required version is too early it has to be upgraded prior to installing the Scan function (this is at any rate true for the 230 series, but maybe all 440 series software versions support Scan); (3) The scan enable floppy disk has coded information in the (usually invisible) tracks 80 and 81 of the floppy disk, including the serial number - the final step in the installation is to enable the scan function from this floppy. Unfortunately the floppy is no use without the hardware.
Hello friends. you can tell me (with photos) which cables should I use to load the software on this machine? You can also tell me where I need to attach these cables? I know that I need to null-modem cable and a mini-centronics cable. I have a null modem cable. The mini-centronics go well mini-centronics/usb?
Good luck firmware upgrades are bit touch and go, its been a long time since ive done one but yeah you need your parallel cable, serial cable null modem and TTL for UI.
If you just require network scanning then you need a dummy disc with dummy serial number.
The machine must have a HDIF PWB for scanning.

The machine is configured with all cards (including the card to scan). What is the ttl cable? It is necessary? It fits where? The parallel cable you mention is the mini-centronics?
The TTL adapter fits on the serial cable and plugs in underneath the control panel. It is used to upgrade the UI software.
I need to reload the software because the machine does not print anymore. I was told me that I need a mini-centronics cable and a null-modem cable. From here it's all right? I need to know which cable mini-centronics I must buy (I want the photo). The cables should be inserted here (see photo)?.
You can try. I always use a laptop with serial and parallel ports for this old machine.
Your adapter will be set on lpt1- for minicentronics and com1- for null modem serial to comunicate with machine.

I have no cards in my laptop, so I should always buy USB adapters. I already have the null-modem/usb and I will buy mini-centronics/usb. Hopefully it works! You give me some hope?
