DC240/250: Fiery system 1.2 on RoHS devices?

We found on some of the controllers , they did not like having more than one memory module fitted at a time. Thats is why we ended up using just a 1 Gb module (Command workstation only see's 784 of the 1Gb.

Where did you get the 1.2 software , from xerox website ?

The software is run from a laptop via cross-over to controller , installs itself.

I guess, running 1.2 on the DC250 is a real challenge ;-)

I've upgraded the memory to 1GB and I'm trying to install the 1.2 system on a fresh HDD for a few weeks now but without success:

Install using Etherboot using a crossover network cable fails because of an error in the setup routine ("operation not permitted") or an incompatibility with my WinXP systems.

EFI send me an utitlity which copies the system to a USB pen drive in order to use this stick directly on the Fiery. This method begins installing the system correctly but then it seems that it encounters some kind of error and aborts the process. The result is a non-functioning system on the new HDD - the system doesn't reach idle state.

The serial line prints out the Linux kernel messages and there I see numerous script and "file not found" errors...

Could it be that Xerox distributes corrupt ISO images?

Does anyone know an alternative source to download the ISOs for the 1.2 system?

I also have a 240, which I am trying to upgrade the software through USB. Someone suggested upgrading the HD and Ram. Is that needed for the update to take?

If you need a copy of the disks, I can make available mine ( I have them in .dmg format, which can be converted if need be to ISO).

I found the load fails continuously on the 40gb hdd , but loads perfectly on a 80gb. The memory is not needed to upgrade to 1.2 but does make the rip process a bit quicker

Hmm. I wonder if there was something wrong on the drive (bad sectors or something) which was causing it to fail. I will try it on the 40gig first, and then see if I need to switch to the 80.

Is the DDR actually 333 on the system, or is it 400? Also, to install from USB, I just shut down the machine, switch the 2 dip switches up, then put the stick in the lowest USB slot, boot the machine, wait about 10 minutes, shutdown the machine, remove the stick, switch the dips down, and then boot ( and then it will spit out a page when done) ?

Is that right?
