    Altboot Problem WCP 232

    Hi

I'm trying to upload image to hdd (WCP 232 - disk is dead) via altboot and hmm i got message Connection failed. Any one any ideas why (i got the same problem with 2636) got NOT original Xerox serial cable and null modem (maybe it's also problem with COM's in PWS???)

which version of altboot you have?

altboot is not same for wcp 232 and for wcp 2636.

you can use any null modem cable, and if you do not get response from machine, when altboot is started (first start altboot, then machine), then you have problem with cable or with com port on pws.

If you laptop has wireless make sure it is disabled as the laptop will try and send the file over the wirless network instead of through the network cable.
And i think you need alboot version 12.4 which has black background

If the network controller board is bad on the machine, you won't get the altboot text either.

              USB to Serial Converter

If you are using a USB to serial converter, make sure it is set to Com 1

With the converter plugged in, Device Manager, Ports, device in question, Properties, Port Settings, Advanced, force to Com 1
