Seems like here lately we've had a lot of power supply boards going out on the M15 and M20 series. I was wondering if anyone has had any luck finding what component goes bad on these boards so we could possibly just solder in a new component withought having to replace the entire board. Any help or advice would be reatly appreciated!

We had a couple of power supplies that failed after 4 or 5 years for Xerox M20i M15 C20 F12 machines. We sent them to be repaired at
J.R. Electronics
6760 Williams Road
Richmond B.C.
V7E 1K5
It cost $85.00 CAN funds + shipping + applicable taxes each repaired board.
I'm sure their are many board repair companies in the USA that offer a similar service.
I don't know which component actually failed on the PCB and it might not be the exact same problem each time but they fixed them anyways and the cost is a lot less than a new one from those highway robbers at Xerox -
I was going to start to trouble shooting this problem myself, by first tryng to replace the capacitors by the rectifier. Xerox had the same problem on the 5018 series ,so its a good place to start. Ill let you know what I find.Comment

We've run into this issue quite frequently as well. We still have all our M20I's under Xerox service agreement so we never looked too hard at them but next one I run in to we'll take a quick look at to see if we can help you out on this.

Replace all the barrel capacitors on the power supply board.
I got this tip from someone several years ago in reply to a question about bad output from scanning originals and it works for dead power supplies too. Been doing this for several years. About 12 dollars in caps and about twenty minutes is all it takes.Comment

I have had experience of the 5018 LVP capacitor problem/fix. I've also known other products where the LVPS can be repaired by just resoldering the Capacitors onto the pwb.. Just get the soldering iron hot and melt the solder on the underside of the circiutboard. This was a common problem on Xerox document centre 220 ( fault close upper left hand door ). I've not personally had a problem woth M20 power supplies but thought that maybe this fix might work without buying caps. The problem seems to be that caps warm up and cool down which stresses the point where they are fixed onto the baord and this will cause a dry joint after several years.Comment
