Failure to connect PWS to a DC 1632

We were just trying to connect a PWS to a 1632 which has failed. The 1632 boots through the dots but comes up with a greyed out copy function on the screen (it isn't connected to a network). When we connect the PWS it says that there's a problem with the connection and that we should try to connect later when it's finished booting but it doesn't boot any more than described. It also says the machine has an error and that we should contact the system administrator.

Any clues how to deal with this?

Just to clarify, we'd just put an IBT assembly from another 1632 into this one when the fault occurred, when we put it back in the donor machine that one booted up fine and we could also connect with the PWS. When the IBT belt went back again to the machine we were trying to revive the fault was there again.

Did you check Fans - fuser and rear fun. If one of these don't work it causes greyed out copy function on the screen.

We did swop out the fuser but didn't check the fans, will see about them, thanks

Correction, my colleague did check the fans as well as the fuser, these apparently are not causing the fault.

Did you try Special Boot Modes?

I have seen the fan for the fuser(on the top rear) cause this problem. Even though the fan seemed good there was a speed issue going from low to high on the fan. I replaced and problem was fixed.

Yes that fan has two speeds. Both must work, otherwise machine won't get ready.

                  Problem:

Machine won't boot past 4th dot. PWS won't connect. No fault Codes.

                  Cause:

Machine won't boot past 4th dot. No fault codes available on UI and PWS won't connect. UI indicates "A fault has occurred" and shows a "copy" icon and a "scan" icon. "Copy" icon is greyed out.

                  Solution:

In order to get the PWS to connect to the machine so I could view the fault codes I had to hold the stop, 6, and power saver keys while turning the machine on. PWS Diagnostics would then connect and Faults In Progress showed 9-349 (1st BTR retract) and 9-930 (Black drum cartridge not detected) fault codes.

The customer had missed the rail when installing the A2 Drum Cartridge. The customer then latched the lift unit which bent the A2 rail (PL 4.2 item 6). This caused the plug on the IBT module not to connect and also the plugs on all Drum Cartridges not to connect. After reforming/replacing the A2 Drum Cartridge rail and correctly installing the A2 drum the lift unit would then latch correctly and machine would boot to a "ready" condition.

                  OR

                  Problem:

Will not copy or print, copy mode icon is greyed out and only scan feature is allowed. May declare a 04-346 fault code

                  Cause:

Actuator arm on the IBT cleaning assembly shutter is broken off. This causes the toner to back up in the auger and then bind the IBT belt assembly.

                  Solution:

Replace IBT belt cleaning assembly PL 5.2 item 10

So my colleague went back. Using the special boot modes he managed to get to a point where he got a fault code, something with the Hdd, but was still unable to connect the PWS. Guess it's time for a new Hdd.
