    WC7556 Family

    I have 3 of these machines (7535, 7545, 7556).

All 3 have speed issues when printing color print jobs. It averages approx half of the rated color speed. Black and white printing is at its rated speed.

Funny thing is that when copying both color and BW is fine.

One beast has has its SATA cable replaced, the SBC replaced, and the latest SPAR updated, as forced altboot.

Next step Xerox wants, is the memory changed.

I'm thinking there may be other issues as all 3 machines have the same problem.

    Any ideas?

There is no problem with your machines.
Ask your xerox tech for CED document for this copier model.
Read at the bottom right corner at 1.pdf

Also, make sure that, if you are printing multiple copies of a file, that it is just RIPping it once and printing the rest from memory rather than RIPping all 10 copies of a 10 copy job. This would be something you verify that you have the right setting selected in your driver/print dialog, that the software isn't sending multiple copies rather than one copy with the "print me 10 times" flag. It is possible with the new 75xx drivers some default changed from what you were used to before.

This could exhibit the scenario you described because a pure B&W document, or even a color document but set to B&W mode in the driver, would be MUCH faster to RIP than a full color print. So even though it may be doing the same thing, RIPping it multiple times rather than once, because it is so fast you don't "notice" it since it is able to keep up with the machine's rated speed. Similarly, copying would of course run at rated speed since it would be printing the second copy onwards from memory. Since the copy functions are entirely internal, there is no accidental driver setting on your computer switched the wrong way that could be the problem, it will do it the "right" way automatically.

The fact that it is all three machines, and that it is a difference as big as half, I would definitely double verify that it isn't something as simple as this.

Changing something like memory seems kind of bizarre to me. Totally grasping at straws. If the memory was bad, you'd be having catastrophic problems, or complete non-boot.

The reference to the CED, bottom right corner, is boilerplate for all Xerox machines, and is referencing what I am talking about. If you are printing a 200 page document, and it is fairly complex, yes, the machine will pause every so often to RIP the next few pages. Unless you tell it to print FACE UP, in which case it must RIP EVERYTHING before it even starts printing. So it will take a long time before it even starts. Once it does start, though, it will be at full engine speed.

However, if you are printing 10 copies of that same 200 page complex document, only the FIRST copy should be slow, if your settings are correct as I described above in your driver, because copy 2 through 10 will be from memory.

          Good luck.

            Did you check the driver?

              Here is what happened:

Customer got angry, sales put out another machine at their location, right next to the slow one. The new one printed faster!

Maybe the original machine was a lemon? Hard to say.
