I went to a service call on a phaser 6180. Wasn't dirty to speak of, but customer wanted a cleaning etc. Magenta was streaking and was low anyway so decided to change it out. First I removed all drum units and cleaned the laser lenses, which were really clean as far as I can tell, but shouldn't hurt. I used a Qtip with a little alcohol on it then went back over it with the dry end. didn't see any buildup on the Qtip. I then refitted the drum units. Not paying attention and running on subconscious,I loaded the drums like an HP magenta on the bottom. I started the machine and it worked except the Xerox logo on the printout was yellow. I then realized I put the Magenta in the yellow slot. Yellow is on the bottom on this machine and then magenta above it. It worked without error which to me was a bit strange. Anyhow after changing it back the logo is still yellow. Also when a blue line is printed non feed direction it starts off as blue then about 3/8 the way across turns into a purple or violet color the rest of the way. I was reluctant to do a clear since it was loaded with speed dial numbers. I know the network wont go away but I am not so sure about the rest. My next step is to do nvram and start over again unless I you have any ideas. I have performed color calibrate with no change. Oh and the new reurb magenta cart I put in, even though I pulled the mylar strip off says it is low and needs to be changed. I did turn the machine off several times with no change. I did some research already but didn't find the answers I need from the manual. It does the color change from a print job as well as from the glass or from the adf. I normally don't service xerox so not well informed on it. Just started servicing brother 4070's. All others have been Canon,HP, and Kyocera I normally service. I'm not too proud to ask for help. Any ideas on the Phaser 6180 multi function machine. looks like an hp 4700 in a way. I am not seeing the service functions that HP has. Xerox looks pretty thin when it comes to that, unless there is a service mode I am not seeing. Need to get rid of that color change any ideas?
