    WC M55 fails to initialize

Turn machine on the scanner moves to far right to HPS and exposure light comes on. Get error message:

    14-563-00 scanner needs service

    Display messages

    "Scanner has failed to initialize"

    "Copying and scanning are unavailable"

Cleaned and lubed rails and cleaned home position sensor. Any help is appreciated very much. Frank/ActionPhotocopy

Re: WC M55 fails to initialize

I returned to machine yesterday and checked the fault list and saw 14-110 (scanner home position err). I checked sensor and okay and felt a little resistance on scanner going from right to left. After cleaning and moving back and forth it started to work. I ran over a hundred pages using both the glass and adf. keeping fingers crossed. Frank

Re: WC M55 fails to initialize

The customer called today and said scanner message is back. I don't believe it is a board problem as after i moved the scanner back and forth the machine began to work. I assume the same error code 14-110 has returned which is a scanner home position code.
When I watched the scanner the last time it would go to right and stop without moving back at all. After manually moving scanner back and forth it worked. When it worked properly it would move to right side then move left a couple of inches and stop.
I am going to remove the HP sensor and clean it good and carefully check the part of scanner that goes into sensor to see if it is moving into position or off line.
It could be reverse motor type problem as machine goes into ready after coming back a couple of inches from right side and if it can't come back then therefore HP code.
Any input is very much appreciated. Frank/ActionPhotocopy

Procedure in SM will get to change Scanner Assy.
Check for damaged resistors of CCD PWB.

If it is problem on ccd pwb then why did it work after manually moving scanner back and forth? Shouldn't the problem have stayed if it was a board problem? Frank

Re: WC M55 fails to initialize

I was going to order the scanner motor bracket but was offered whole scanner unit for $103 including shipping. I was having a hard time and was unable to remove scanner unit for replacement so I decided to just change motor as i knew the rubber was very worn and causing problems.
Up to this point the machine was able to copy from glass but got blanks from dadf or scanner failure. I had removed imaging PWB module in attempt to remove scanner. When I had problem removing scanner I reinstalled imaging PWB module. I swapped motor and ran but was at first getting blanks from both glass and dadf. I readjusted motor bracket and then started getting other codes like toner sensor controller code( 09-360) and unavailability of machine. I was not getting scanner code anymore. i Had started to remove developer unit at one point during attempted replacement of scanner. I had not disconnected connector on left side and when I felt resistance just put back developer unit and found out later about connectors.
When I was removing imaging PWB module I tried unsuccessfully to remove plug to imaging PWB so I just let module stand by back of machine. after I reinstalled module I found a small gold contact with 3 curvatures for making contact and it appeared to be made to slide into position. I am not sure where on module it goes or if it has something to do with developer unit. I have attached 3 pictures of it for your ease in understanding this. The codes that I copied from the fault log are as follows:

            CODE TIME DESCRIPTION
09-360 4:57 toner concentration sensor code
            20-331 4:57 fax error
03-700 4:57 power input loss detection
03-777 4:57 power input loss detection
            03-338 4:52 fax code
09-360 4:52 toner concentration sensor fault
03-700 4:51 power input loss detection
03-777 4:51 power input loss detection

03-331 4:49 Loss of communication between imaging PWB + network controller
09-360 4:47 Toner concentration sensor fault
            20-331 4:42 fax communication fault
03-700 4:42 power input loss detection
03-777 4:42 power input loss detection

Some of these codes are related to fax and networking but are probably there because the machin is not plugged into a fax line or computer. The machine is only used as a copier. These codes can be ignored and the machine will not be disabled. The toner concentration code seems to be disabling machine at this point. Any help and advice you can give is appreciated. please try to hold back tour urge to tell me to stay away from Xerox machines.
The reason i was unable to remove scanner was that there was a screw on right rear sise of machine I could not access as I was not able to disengage finisher not being familiar with this system. I found out later when i got back to my place about how to disengage finisher. Frank/ActionPhotocopy

Looks like you need service manual for this machine.
The copper pieces is from fireware pwb and fax pwb. It help to put these pwb's at metal cage chasis of SIP.

Thanks Adrian. Is that the imaging pwb modules i slid out from back of machine under scanner which has two thumb screws?. Is it necessary as machine is not connected to fax line or computer?Frank

                  You don't need them.

Re: WC M55 fails to initialize

Thanks Adrian. Why do you think i am getting the toner sensor fault(09-360)? Do you think it was when i attempted to take out developer unit without disconnecting connectors on left side? I never had that code before taking machine apart. Only the scanner failure to initialize before this(14-110). FRANK
