Xerox workcentre 4118. It can print but it won't make copies..is it the scanner?...should i replace the whole thing?

Yes, it is something to do with the scanner. Check if the ribbon cable between CCD and main board is correctly connected .. you can even check it for continuity. Make sure as well that the voltages are right. Only then should you replace the CCD (not the whole scanner assembly).
You didn't say that the exposure lamp isn't working, so I say the above with the assumption that it is fine.Comment

I have not turned this printer for two months now. I finally did and it is actually making copies...only one problem, when I make copies through the side feed it comes our right, but when I use the tray the picture is a bit off, as if the paper was fed late and that it started printing images on the paper when the paper has not reached that area yet. the image is shifted up, as if the paper is fed in late. Atleast it is making copies, but now I have this problem.Comment
