    Self Servicing Xerox DocuColor Printers....

    Hello...

I've been reading various posts on the forum regarding diagnostics software and xerox parts etc... We've had Xerox equipment for close to 5 years but with yet another annual price rise due to come into effect in the next couple of weeks (and not being ready to upgrade to new machines!) we wanted to see what the options were for self servicing the machines. Basically servicing the machines outside of the Xerox FSMA and paying for parts as needed rather than a click charge.

Firstly I wanted to see if anyone else was doing this? How do you find it, both technically and finance wise?

Second I wondered if anyone could advise on what would be required to start doing this? I've seen various discussions relating to PWS/Diagnostics software, can this be obtained legitimately? And I've also seen various places online which supply all the individual parts... is this likely to be the best source of parts or are there alternative places to get them? Do Xerox sell the directly for example?

The machines in question are DocuColor 5000.

Any information would be greatly appreciated!

    Thanks

    Hi mlclm,

Almost all customers in my country are outside of the Xerox FSMA contract.
Finding parts and supplies isn't problem at all. Especially in your country. Software is available too, but you have to pay for it.
But servicing equipment without experience could be a problem. When you are in fsma contract any problem would be solved in day or two. When you are in your own it could prolong much longer.

So my advice is to find good technician available when you get stuck.

    Good luck

      Hi Bojans,

      Thanks for the reply!

We have a fair bit of experience as we already service what we can... we've rebuilt the fusers etc and have a decent understanding of the xerographics. We're also in a good position as we have 2x machines so if worst case scenario one was down for a couple of days while we got parts we can still run the other machine.

Do you have any idea how the costs compare when outside a fsma? Appreciate this may vary a bit by country depending on part availability/costs.

      Thanks!

        I wouldn't know that!
People here are telling me that is cheaper then in fsma contract. They are selling A3 heavyweight 20 Euro cents per print!
But technician fees are too small and we get very cheap consumables from Europe (don't ask me how).

The greatest cost come from paper, then toner, then drums assy, developer and parts.
You must to know how is the cost of all these in your area.
Also you take a look at ebay or from China suppliers for consumables.
You may use a second hand laptop with pws, edoc, firmware and pws tool to selfservice the machines.
The cost depends by the numbers of prints you make in a month. Only you can calculate if is or not the cheaper than FSMA.

Here in the States, people get hosed on the fsma contracts from Xerox. All of my clients that I service say that we are saving them a lot of money compared to being on a lease/contract. You can order almost all supplies off of Amazon or ebay.

We would be more than happy to service your Docucolor's, but we are here in the states.

              Hi guys,

              Thanks for your replies.

We're still looking into this but it's looking like quite a good option!

Any other advice or tips people could give would be great!

              Thanks again.
