    XEROX 8830 wide format

the machine will print/copy a job just fine then indicate to open rear cutter door. after opening and closing the rear cutter door to reset, the machine will reprint the job and say open rear cutter door. repeat process and it will reprint in an endless loop until you cancel the job. sometimes it will not cut the sheet and the print job will hang out of the machine and you will have to manually cut and reload the roll and it will reprint.
i admit i am not very familiar with this machine. any and all ideas appreciated. oh, this all started after a storm and the power had flickered several times

Hi, you may have a problem with the sensor not sending messages to the cutter to activate and cut paper.

It appears that you may have a bad sensor or damaged sensor.

Check to make sure the cutter is functioning as it should, it maybe a faulty cutter motor.

Does the cutter return to the home position?

i tested the machine printing on cut sheet paper instead of roll paper and it works flawlessly. when i check the cutter home position sensor encoder, it is stopped just slightly past the opening in the wheel where home position should be. when i run the cutter in diagnostics, it always stops at home position in the encoder. i noticed there is a setting in the diagnostics for a cutter brake. what is a cutter brake? i thought about changing the cutter motor but it works every time and tests good in diagnostics. i thought about replacing the cutter home position sensor but it too tests good in diagnostics. if the cutter is advancing slightly after cutting the paper and not stopping at home position, could it cause the machine to indicate open/check the cutter then reprint? what do i do next and what is the cutter brake?

The plastic gear on the motor is probably cracked.

i checked the gears on the drive belt, there is a sealed gear pack on the motor assy that i can not check but if it were one of those then i would need a new motor and the motor is very $$ and hard to find. the front door interlock is a reed switch with a magnet and it tests good in diagnostics. when i test the motor in diagnostics it always stops at the home position on the encoder disk but when i run a print, the motor stops just slightly past the encoder opening. it still looks like the cutter motor brake is not stopping the motor and it over turns past home but i don't know what the cutter brake is.

When the cutter goes through its cycle the whole cutter itself might bounce
a bit causing the cutter open switch actuator to move deactuating the switch.
There was a bulletin describing how to make an adjustment to the
actuator stop tab to stop a problem, that sounds
like the one you have. Sadly I read that more than 10 years ago
so my memory might be wonky.
Dare I say......cheat the interlock switch to test it.
              And good luck.
