Xerox 5020 drum unit

Hi guys. I need to know if the xerox 5020 drum unit is the same as the xerox pro 420. The copiers look pretty much alike and so do the drum units. My guess is that they differ only by the drum unit chip. I could really use a clear answer. Thanks.

drum cartridges are the same. This can be seen when looking at the back of the drum cartridge.
In the middle of the right side of the chip has a part number molded on the plastic. Number is 802E42290.
It is the same for WorkCentre 5016/5020, WorkCentre 315/320 and WorkCentre 415/420.
Therefore cartridges are the same.
Physical drums are also identical. The gears are also identical - with slanted teeth.
The difference comes from the shape of the chip. It was different in 5016/5020, compared with 315/320 and 415/420.
Connector inside the machine is also different.
You should see if it is possible to remove the chip from the 5016/5020 and mounted on 315/320 or 415/420.
This can be checked.

Hi livewire. So here's what i want to do : i have a xerox pro 420 drum unit and i want to mount it on a xerox 5020. If i change the drum unit chip, will it work?

WorkCentre 415/420 Drum Cartridge (101R00023) works great on WorkCentre 5016.
I tested this today.
Just replace the chip and enjoy.

One more thing : the drum unit comes with toner? or after i install it, i have to put toner manually.

Hi saviOr,

The drum unit comes without toner. Toner bottle NOT included.
Every Drum Cartridge have Installation Instructions.
In your case, if you're using Drum Cartridge 415/420, you can use toner WorkCentre 415, Pro 315, 320, 420. The other difference I can think of now is that the toner bottle caps are different. You can not add 5016/5020 toner in 415/420 Drum Cartridge. You can swap the Drum Cartridge caps, where you put the toner bottle on top of Drum Cartridge.

Remember this.
Turn off the machine, remove the old drum cartridge. Put the new drum cartridge in the machine, pull it back out halfway until it stops. Reload toner. Insert Drum Cartridge. Close covers and turn on the machine.

Hi. I ordered 5020 toner bottles and i'm thinking to swap the toner bottle caps from the 5020 old drum unit to the pro 420 drum unit. This and i think i'm good. Many thanks . You have been of great help to me. Owe you one , like i said before.
