    [Misc] New Copier Purchase

I priced out a Xerox 7855 and a Konica C554. The Xerox had significantly lower pricing. How do these machines compare in terms of reliability? Both have good support from the company I would be buying them from. Is there anything that I'm missing to pick the 7855 over the C554?
One more thing...We print a lot of 80lb double sided glossy cover xerox paper for a quarterly newsletter. Currently we are doing this on a Konica C550.

They are both fairly new machines so probably not a lot out in the field yet. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    I would stick with Konica.

How do they compare on a per page cost. That's where Xerox usually gets blown out of the water.

both are new machines for the manufactures, I have seen both copiers and looks good.
the KM 554 changed the overall software giving a tablet looking screen a different feel and if your not trained on that model the tech might have a difficult time servicing it the xerox 7855 can only be a step up from the previous models since fuji added its own special input making it better than xerox ever did. But both have no reliable history when they are new they will work well only time will tell. good luck on your decision.
Get your facts first, and then you can distort them as much as you please.

I'm sorry I didn't respond to this sooner. I was notified of the first reply but none of the subsequent ones. Xerox was much cheaper believe it or not. Konica has promised to match the Xerox price so the pricing is basically the exact same. I just went and looked at the Xerox a couple days ago. We currently have a Konica C550 and my first impression was the Xerox machine seemed to be made cheap and flimsy compared to our C550. Now our C550 hasn't exactly been a perfect machine (we have a little over a million prints on it) but still the Xerox felt cheap. Are the machines cheapening up across the board? In light of exact same pricing, does this give an edge to the xerox or konica?

          Thanks in advance! Brent

Again, I have to ask how the per page cost compares. Most customers do not realize that the least expensive part of owning a copier is the purchase price. What it costs you over the next 5 years is what matters.

I'd say go with what you know. I hear that once you go X you can't afford to go to anything else. I hear its way to hard to switch.
Color is not 4 times harder... it's 65,000 times harder. They call it "TECH MODE" for a reason. I have manual's and firmware for ya, course... you are going to have to earn it.

I'm sorry, I don't think I was clear about pricing. The 5 yr pricing machine and consumables is the same. I know this might be surprising but this local Xerox company has gotten very aggressive for 1st time customers. Both companies are pretty solid.

I asked the same questions. It was refuse to lose pricing, 5 years fixed. I was surprised myself. We ended going Konica but it was the basically the SAME cost over 5 yrs, maintenance and purchase price, everything for both the Konica / Xerox. Thanks for everyone's help!
