    DC 1256GA Skew

    Hi all,

I look after the printing side of a small business that produces various products, some of which include printed materials. I have ended up with a DocuColor 1256GA with Fiery XP50 RIP (long story) and although the color reproduction and quality is generally good, it is causing me some headaches with skew (1.2mm difference along the long edge of an A4 sheet) ... the printed materials are typically processed through a card cutter and as such image skew is a problem.

I read on a post on these forums that talks about adjusting position of the Registration Roller assembly (loosen both screws and "twist" slightly) and I have tried this and it successfully removes the skew from light-weight media i.e. 100gsm through any tray (including 5 - the bypass tray). When I print from heavyweight media (265gsm +) in tray five, the skew is back however, and no matter how the assembly is adjusted, the skew remains - it is as if it makes no difference on the heavier media. Does this mean that there are worn rollers or something else is wrong?

I have also read up on the Tray Alignment through CWS and using this alignment has also enabled the skew to be eliminated, however on all trays except 5 as I cannot align Tray 5 from CWS 1.6 (Mac)/1.7(Mac)/4(Windows)/5(Windows) (it is not an option). I have checked with the PWS (I have one at my disposal) and do not see any fault codes relating to registration. Any ideas? Lead and side edge registration also need a tweak, but that is a separate issue.

    Thanks very much in advance.

    Kind regards,
    Gavin
