    Xerox WorkCentre 7120 Factory RESET

We have customer with this 7120 that picked up this machine from another service provider and they are having problems beyond what can be explained. We are looking to help them out by simply reseating the machine to factory settings.. Looking for either NVRAM initialization or anything that will wipe it clean as NEW. Please let me know how this can be done via Service Mode. Thanks in advance for al l your help

The link seems to be broken for accessing UI diagnostic mode, not sure if its relevant for me if it hangs on startup. I would very much appreciate the "real" technical manuals for this copier as opposed to the useless user and service manuals. If anyone can be of assistance please PM me, I have a specific error code and it hangs on start up at 3/6 I would like to understand low level firmware update procedure as well as factory reset. Thank you

It come by it after powering it while pressing the "Start" and "energy saver" buttons. It sits in some --Boot Mode-- LongDiag Mode. All the buttons flash continually and then it tells me PLEASE REBOOT 116-317

It seems like that mode is prompting me for some sort of navigation to perhaps select a mode but no buttons manage to do anything.

So I just want to make sure I understand. The procedure is to Reseat the DIMM module. Is there a different more specific DIMM module that is separate from the obvious one when you open the panel to reveal the hard drive. There are two DIMM Slots. One of which is empty. Removing the module and trying to start is unresponsive, because well, no Ram. I did try to reseat it to no avail. What does ESS stand for?

                      So my understanding is,

                      1. Reseat the obvious ram chip
                      ---Done, didn't help
                      2. Update or reload Printers firmware
---Found latest update but specific update procedure eludes me, attempted putting the .bin file in the root of a thumb drive and booting in various different key combinations, no luck
---Found something that mentioned putting in a very specifically named folder, no luck
---unable to access software updates most guides allude to because no access to the GUI as it hangs on 3/6 of initialization
---Seeking specific low level flashing procedure
                      3. Completely replace the Ram with a new one
---Seems strange to me that it would be a faulty ram chip if it powers on and hangs, seems to have ram available to tell me things, but I could understand perhaps bad portion of the ram chip but I would expect it to crash at random times if that were the case
---Wondering if perhaps ESS ROM memory DIMM is distinctly different from the obvious DIMM on the board
                      4. Replace ESS pwb
---This to me says to replace the motherboard that is responsible for the entire operation of the copier. Do I have that correct?

Thank you for your time and effort, please let me know if I am misinformed and where I can go from here

Yes there are two slots for DIMM. The white slot is for Postscript DIMM option and probably it is empty. The black one is for memory. 1 and 3 steps from procedure reffer to this DIMM - first ask to reseat then to change. The usb procedure for reload software presume the firmware on the ESS board is ok. If not the reading from usb not works. The procedure for reload the software is for xerox tech with special software which is on he ( or she ) laptop.
Last step - to change ESS also requires presence of xerox tech because must done some procedures. Yes ESS pwb si the electronic board where the DIMM and HDD and ethernet, usb serial ports are in place.

Thank you for your help, not to diminish the years of experience or training that a xerox tech must endure but I am more than qualified to follow the same procedures they do. I appreciate xerox has a need to make money but I strongly believe in my right to repair the things I own. So am I to understand this software on a technicians laptop is PWS correct? It is possible without too much trouble to get a laptop set up in this fashion? I’m interested in learning everything I can so any “technician materials” you could provide or point me in the direction of would be greatly appreciated. If you could just confirm for me the laptop and pws is possible I should be able to find procedures, now that I know what I need to do but if you had recommendations for resources for that as well I would not be mad at you. I would sooner replace firmware than the motherboard as it’s a matter of monetary resources. However I will look into the cost of a replacement dim. How universal are the DIMM modules between similar copier modules. Are they standard modules or proprietary?
