[Misc] DocuColor 242 Whiney RIP Noise

We just purchased (used) a Xerox 242. So far everything is great except the RIP makes a horribly whining noise. The techs have been out twice and claim its the fan and that every machine (242's) makes that noise. A company downstairs has a newer machine (550) and it doesn't make that sound at all. When I told the tech the answer was "its a different machine". Sigh.

My question: is this noise really normal?

    Thanks.

Tell them to replace the fan. It shouldn't make a loud whining noise. Fans are cheap.
I've replaced them on this type machine for the same reason.

Thank you. The tech kept telling me that it wouldn't make a difference if he replaced the fan but I just find it hard to believe. I will press him to replace it.

Could be either your cpu fan or the exhaust fan, both are easily replaced and will surely fix any noise issues. You could replace it yourself too, dead easy when it comes to the exhaust fan, cpu fan is doable but lil different.

Thanks Daan. The machine has a service contract so I can have them fix it. The tech was being difficult about it. I guess he will just have to come back and do what I asked him to do to begin with.
